Keep Them On Their Toes

A student sitting for too long is what I want to help you avoid. Come participate in a variety of these strategies and decide which will work best for your teaching style and classroom.

From Rambles to Revelations: Talk Tools to Steer Student Discourse Toward Deeper Learning and Engagement

Every teacher knows the struggle: students eager to dominate the conversation, and those brimming with quiet insights. Yet, harnessing student discourse can be a game-changer for student understanding and engagement. In this presentation, you'll discover equitable talk tools that cultivate the vibrant classroom discussions you've always envisioned. We'll tackle strategies to empower diverse voices, build student confidence, and elevate sense-making discussions without losing control. You'll leave with practical tools to promote productive student-to-student conversations (like establishing talk norms, group-talk roles, scaffolded talk cards, and crosstalk methods) and master teacher-to-student questioning techniques (such as pressing, follow-ups, wait time, and revoicing). You'll experience how talk tools transform classroom discussions in various situations and leave with practical resources to confidently implement these strategies.
