In this session, Speech-Language Pathologist Candice Paulsen provides a closer look at the world of Neurodiversity and how Autism and ADHD can impact students. Providing insights into the minds and experiences of autistic individuals, as well as those with ADHD, Candice offers a new perspective on these populations and how educators and therapists can more effectively support them and reduce stigma. Attendees will be provided with information regarding autistic dysregulation and shut down, special interests and the bridge they can provide toward educator and student communication, the dangers of masking, the truth behind echolalia, and more. By peeking behind the curtain of neurodiversity, this course will help educators, administrators, and therapists provide every student with effective support, guide them toward finding greater insight into how they learn, and to celebrate the ways they are different.
