When students feel that they belong and are successful from the start, they are more likely to attend school, participate in class activities, and show resiliency against adverse experiences. But where can you begin? In this session, the Title III ML team from Federal Programs will share practical strategies for you to use with newcomer multilingual (ML) students on the first day and throughout the year. We have all experienced the need for a "lifeline" to be given to us at times, and everyone's reason for needing the lifeline is different. Our multilingual learners (ML) are often reaching out for support as they learn to navigate through the school day. This session will encourage administrators and teachers to collaborate in discussions centered on ML students. The lifeline discussions may include: the use of ESL tutors, WIDA testing, cultural barriers, translation, comprehensible input, stages of language, available resources, ELLevation platform, and much more.
